Change of Authority

The 161st Air Refueling Wing welcomed a new Commander Chief during a change of authority ceremony here Feb. 06.

Chief Master Sgt. Johnny Smith accepted authority from Chief Master Sgt. James Nedved in front of an audience of family, community members and 161 ARW personnel.

Chief Smith assumed responsibility of the 161 ARW after serving as the Human Resource Adviser for the Arizona National Guard where he was responsible for on a variety of enlisted issues and perspectives - from strategic vision, goals and objectives to enlisted professional development.

After the change of authority the Chief Smith spoke briefly to the members of the 161 ARW.
"I am very proud to be given the opportunity to serve the enlisted men and women of the 161st," said Chief Smith, 'and as command chief I will make sure we are prepared for deployments. I'll also be honest upfront and make sure everyone is treated fairly."

Outgoing Command Chief Nedved also briefly spoke explaining the importance of the position as the head enlisted person, responsible for the enlisted force.

Chief Nedved will being taking Chief Smith's place as the state HRA.
