As I recently went out shopping with my wife, I observed something that was quite odd. There were multiple aisles clustered with Halloween, Christmas and just a smattering of Thanksgiving things. Hopefully our celebration of Thanksgiving does not mirror the store aisles.

Thanksgiving is an important time of the year to show appreciation to those around us and give thanks for our blessings. Thanksgiving has always been one of my favorite holidays. Although thanksgiving presents an opportunity for us to express our traditions of indulging in delicious food, watching endless parades and football games, the festivity means something more to me. It reminds me to take the time to reflect on the positive things in my life and give thanks to God for his blessings.

There are many benefits to showing appreciation and giving thanks. For example, showing appreciation to others helps build a better environment where people feel they have been recognized for their contributions to a group. Whether it's in the work place or at home, it can build a contagious positive energy for everyone. I've also observed that giving thanks is a strong motivational tool that allows people to see that you admire them and appreciate their input.

Regardless of your Thanksgiving traditions, please take time to count your blessings and share words of appreciation to others who have made your life better.

Have a happy and safe Thanksgiving!
