Operation Deep freeze
Penguins eagerly investigate the supplies and personnel being delivered by New York’s 109th Airlift Wing via LC-130 aircraft in support of Operation Deep Freeze to McMurdo Air Station, Ross Island, Antarctica, December 2011. Operation Deep Freeze, in support of science, is a part of the United States Antarctica Program and is funded by the National Science Foundation. Master Sgt. Sean Kelly, 161st Air Refueling Wing Aircrew Flight Equipment technician and attached to the New York unit, documents the day-to-day activities of these flightless birds in addition to his Life Support duties.
