Triennial Exercise
Phoenix Sky Harbor International airport held its triennial exercise, Phoenix, Oct. 30, 2014. The Federal Aviation Administration requires airports like Phoenix Sky Harbor to conduct a full-scale emergency exercise once every three years. This exercise not only satisfied that federal requirement, it also allowed the 161st Air Refueling Wing, the Phoenix Aviation Department, Phoenix Fire, police from the Phoenix valley, FBI, NTSB, and Homeland Security to exercise unified command procedures and provide hands-on training. The exercise simulated an aircraft emergency crash landing. The exercise also provided responders a first-hand view of the way they fit into the airport’s emergency response plan. Volunteers from the American Red Cross were present to collect information and pass out water. (U.S. Air National Guard photo by Tech. Sgt. Courtney Enos/Released)
